Resumes and LinkedIn Workshop
Why are all the colleges and universities teaching students outdated information when it comes to resumes and networking?
Everything is, “it needs to be one page, black and white only, times new roman, and bullets everywhere”. While this type of resume may still work in some places, this is not going to work as the world moves forward and new generations become the ones reviewing resumes. So we hosted our own workshop.
During the workshop students got to see a variety of acceptable and unacceptable resume templates. They discussed the type of language you are supposed to use. How to frame your skillsets and experiences. They reviewed how to curate your resume to role and why qualitative and quantitative information are both necessary. The students were able to listen to advice from people who are currently in roles that require them to stay up to date on candidates and review resumes.
The students participated in a LinkedIn curation demo, which allowed them to explore all the ways their linkedIn profiles could be utilized. Many of the students had heard of linkedIn, but did not have profiles or fully understand what the purpose of the media platform was for. Now all students have a LinkedIn account and have been tasked with using it create a network for themselves.
This was the first of many workshops we are hosting this year!
